Fic: The Ghost of Kavanagh
Mar. 2nd, 2006 05:45 pmTitle: The Ghost of Kavanagh
Author: libra_traveller
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Kavanagh dies and comes back to haunt Atlantis.
Author’s Note: I’m not sure where this idea came from, but it kind of stuck.
It was on a dreary day that Devin Kavanagh was killed. He died in a freak accident that was no one’s fault, but his spirit did not see it that way. He haunted and essentially tortured everyone of Atlantis until they were forced to bring in a Priest to exorcise him.
Now lets go back to that day full of clouds where Kavanagh was out on a balcony getting some needed fresh air. McKay had been driving him crazy with his demands and insults. A storm was brewing but Devin barely noticed. He got a call on his com to return to the labs. He was starting to turn around when a shot of lightning hit the railing and cracked it. It fell away and the poor man fell with it, flailing and screaming until his body hit the water and he knew no more.
When Devin Kavanagh failed to return to the labs, one of the scientists who worked with him went to Devin’s favorite balcony. When she discovered the broken railing she called the control center. Sadly the Daedulus was on route to Earth and Kavanagh’s body could not be recovered. They did track the signal of his com from deep in the ocean. There was a memorial that few attended.
The haunting started small, little breezes ruffling hair and papers. It moved on to shutting laptops on fingers, adding Tabasco sauce in already spicy food, making coffee decaf. Later there were whispers of derogatory comments on people’s looks and work, then yells to startle people in the hallways. Soon knives were seen floating through the air in the mess.
Most people accepted all of this as the normal happenings of the Pegasus Galaxy, until they started to find puddles of blood on the floors leading from bathrooms. They would walk through psychic cobwebs that sent chills down their spines. No one knew what was causing this until the whiteboard in one of the labs had a red marker write on it by itself. The message said… ‘I’m still here, D.K.’.
Many joked about the presence of Donkey Kong, but there were those who knew Kavanagh’s first name and were freaked. It got much worse as Kavanagh took to possessing people, often the leaders, and using them to say and do hurtful things. It got so out of hand that a message was sent to Earth asking for help.
The people of the SGC did not believe them, but they found a Priest with high enough clearance and sent him to Atlantis. Holy water was poured, prayers were offered, and in the end Devin Kavanagh became bored and left this plane of existence.
