Title: The Crazy things Little Girls do to Young Boys
Author: libra_traveller
Rating: G
Summary: John and Rodney talk about their past.
Author’s Note: These come from memories of my own childhood, just instead from the point of view of the boy.

It was a cloudless night and two men sat at a campfire. One sat leaning against a bag to support himself, looking out past their fire. The other was leaning over his knees, staring at the fire.

“I’m just curious, why were you so calm when the girls were following you everywhere in the village?” Rodney looked up from the fire and met John’s eyes.

“Oh that, I’m used to it.” John shrugged.

“What?” Rodney looked baffled.

John glanced at him then looked at the fire trying to figure out how much to explain. “It’s just, I’ve always had girls chasing me. Literally.”

The young voices were excited as it was almost time for recess. One dark haired boy was not as enthusiastic, he was in fact dreading leaving the safety of the classroom. As he walked between the desks towards the door he heard some of the girls giggling and knew there would be trouble.

By the time he walked out onto the blacktop he could no longer hear there whispers and hoped that maybe today he would have a break. So he went to the basketball hoop and stood with the other boys, hoping if it came down to it, they could protect him. He kept glancing over his shoulder towards the swing set where the girls were chatting. Everything was going fine for awhile, shooting some hoops, talking with the other boys about the teacher’s crazy hair and about their Dads’ cars.

A hand tapped his shoulder and a giggle tickled his ear. He looked up in panic. There was a long blond haired girl standing right next to him. He could see all around the playground girls strategically placed. The game was on. The blond leaned forward to kiss his cheek and he jumped away. The other boys looked on amused but did nothing to help.

He started to run, thinking, why did this always happen to him? As he moved he had to dodge the girls playing hopscotch and the boys pushing toy cars around. He tried not to look over his shoulder at the several girls that were chasing him. A brown haired girl came at him from the left and he sidestepped her. Another red head grabbed his wrist and pulled him to a stop. She leaned in and he squealed, ducking and yanking his hand and crawling away. He got up on his feet and ran again. He kept going through some girls playing London Bridge and they just almost caught him.

The boys moved out of his way as they saw him coming but they did nothing to stop the girls from attacking him, traitors, he thought strongly. He kept running, no girl was going to get him, he would win. When the bell finally rang he was out of breath, his legs were aching and he stopped, seeing the girls around him pouting.

As he walked into the door the teacher gave him a sympathetic look and patted his shoulder. He limped through the door. So far everyday they had been after him, and he was afraid one day he would slip and get kissed.

The cackles annoyed John as he looked at Rodney clutching his stomach. “Oh god that’s priceless. How old were you?”

“It was second grade, and I will never forget it. I think I learned most of what I know about avoiding the enemy from those girls.” John shuddered thinking about it all.

Rodney was still laughing. “I really can’t top that.”

“Well you’ll have to try, because I shared, now it’s your turn.” John glared at him until Rodney finally stopped laughing.

“Okay, okay. It was the summer before first grade.”

Today the girls next door had been planning something. There were four of them, one wavy brunette haired girl was his age and he had been playing games with her for awhile. He went around the house to their backyard, noticing the tree in the back had bloomed white flowers. One of the older girls grabbed his arm and slowly pushed him forward to stand by the tree.

Yesterday they had explained to him what they had in mind, but he went over anyways. The girls were all wearing their best dresses. He stood their nervous as the youngest girl walked towards him throwing flower petals she had picked up from what fell by the tree. As his friend started walking down the path, he panicked and ran as fast as he could past the girl and through the gate of the fence and all the way to his house. Hopefully tomorrow they will have forgotten this crazy idea. Games with girls are always hazardous, he thought.

John looked at him with his mouth hanging open. At Rodney’s glare he snapped it shut. “You were what, five, six? And you jilted some poor girl in her backyard? Were you still friends afterward?”

Rodney sighed. “Yes, until she moved away.”

John shook his head. “That’s really great. Let’s get some sleep.” They both got into their sleeping bags and closed their eyes, seeing visions of the young girls they knew back then.

Thank you. A boy name Chris refused to play marry me, and then a couple years later I was part of a bunch of girls chasing Nathaniel trying to kiss him. I just thought, what would it be like to have been the boy?

That was adorable! I can just see an eight year old John being terrified...

As I recall, my friend was quite terrified, as he ran. Of course then the teacher stopped me and said something about how cute 'my little crush' was. Heh. I think that was the last time I joined in that chase.
