That fic meme going around
Mar. 8th, 2007 06:35 pmSo I rarely do memes but this one I've been thinking about, so here is my list of my favorite fics I've written and why:
Duty - The first fanfic I remember writing. It's a Final Fantasy VIII love story between the hero and the main girl.
"A Stranded Arabian SG-1" - For my theater arts class I wrote the beginning of a play where I made the team be run off a planet to another one while wearing Arabian outfits.
Atlantis Fics:
Boredom What to say about this one? Well it's one of my first crack stories, and believe me, it qualifies as crack. To sum this story up, the power of love songs defeat the wraith. I had so much fun every time I sat down to write this story, listening to different songs and writing down the lyrics. For the first part of it before it turned really strange, I got an amazing review saying how it turned gender assumptions of behavior towards homosexual relationships on its head. In otherwords it was Teyla uncomfortable with John and Rodney cuddling while Aiden was all for it. Around the time I started writing this I realized I had a knack for comedy, and I enjoyed making everyone laugh over this.
Passing of Time This was a very sad story, a character death. Being able to write a story that showed people grieving but gave them hope at the end was cathartic for me.
Time Flies This story was I think my first successful plot-driven piece. I tried very hard at using descriptions and showing action. I also wrote almost the entire thing between classes while on campus. A good friend of mine when we met up for lunch let me go on and on about it and even suggested how I could move it along.
Furlings I never finished this story, mainly because it began as a group effort for a yahoo group that disappeared, where we tried to write our own episodes. I've also been obsessed with the furlings forever, but now that SG-1 did their spoof of what they would look like, I think I can let them go. Still I have fond memories of the work I did in that group.
Video Messages I wrote this for a McKay/Weir challenge, though the hint of that relationship only comes at the end. I found this difficult to write because I was incorportating dialogue from the transcripts of episodes with Simon. This one was also nominated for the Isis Awards which really surprised me, though that's not the reason I'm picking this story. I've chosen this one because it was my attempt at giving Weir a life before stargate, and I think it came out very touching and believable.
The Cinch's song Though I don't know what I meant by a cinch, this poem that I made after the Grinch's song, I find it to be my best use of rhyme and rhythm. Besides I adore the last line because it is so true.
I'm Not Broken I'm including this because it was my longest fanfic I ever wrote, and after much planning I managed to do it in four days, even if it was over a month before I made the changes my beta offered. Another interesting tidbit about this story, during the entire writing process I had one song repeating on my iTunes, the Evanescence song I placed at the beginning of the story. It was also the first story I actually did research for and I think that made all the difference.
Special Lately I've written many drabbles, but this one feels the most honest, it's touching and sums up what I think of the relationship between John and Rodney.
