Summary: Erlend has to leave to fight the Sorceress
Author’s Note: Sort of an AU of the game. I also used in this the names I chose while playing. Wrote this sometime in high school.

Erlend hovered over Jessica’s bedside. She’s in a coma. Erlend is preparing to go into the future to fight the Sorceress. If he doesn’t go, the end of all him and SeeDs stood for, would be fast-coming. There seems to be nothing he can do for Jessica. Not only that, but even he might not live. He’d probably die, the Sorceress defeating him easily. He doesn’t know why he ever thought he stood a chance.

Because he must. He must do it for everyone. No one would miss him if he was gone. He had to make sure that the people he knew lived, that everybody lived. He needed to do something to make himself important, for everybody out there in the world. He would save the day, he alone would bring back life to these people. He would be their savior because he must. This was his destiny.

All these thoughts were insignificant when facing that precious face that lay before him. She had tried to get him to show her his feelings. Every time she had, he had rebuffed her. He had been outright mean when she had asked for help. The only time he had shown himself to her was when they first met and she asked him to dance. Even though he had at first refused, faking that he couldn’t dance to stay out of any kind of relationship. He was ignoring everything she threw at him and still acting like a jealous jerk whenever Seiffer was around. It had hurt him seeing those two together. Seeing her kiss him.

[Kiss him?] How he remembered suddenly seeing Jessica go to Seiffer, pick up his hand and kiss him. He had stood up and left her. She fell down into the coma she was now in. [So what happened?] Erlend wanted to know. What had he done to Jessica? [Did she give him life, almost taking away her own?] Erlend didn’t know what to do but he knew that his time was almost over.

He saw through his peripheral vision Quitis coming through the door. He knew why she was here. She was here to tell him that it was time to go and to insist that she go with him. Erlend had stubbornly decided that he was going by himself. He didn’t want someone to get killed, especially someone he grew up with, he reminded himself.

Quitis came in and before she said anything he told her to give him a few more moments alone. He said he’d be out there shortly. She left and Erlend just lost it. He now knew that this was it, that he would never see Jessica again, never hear her voice and never say sorry. He was still crying when he remembered that Jessica had wanted his ring. The one with the lion carved on it, that he had named Mufassa. He took off the ring and slowly picked up her arm. Caressing her hand he put the ring on her lovely finger. He kissed her hand and held it to his chest. He would never see her again. Sniffly he slowly bended down and kissed her lips. He then left the room and went to the Quad where the portal that would take him to the future lay.

Erlend takes a minute to make sure he has everything and then jumps into the portal. The portal suddenly blows up and people come rushing in. Back in the infirmary Jessica slowly wakes up. She sees the ring on her hand and rushes out of the room. She finds Zell who falls over when seeing her. She asks him where Erlend is and he quickly summarizes what happened while she was in a coma. Jessica rushes into the Quad to find out that the portal just blew up and no one could find a trace of Erlend.
