Poem: Nap Time
Jul. 9th, 2007 04:07 pmThis is dedicated to my cat.
She sleeps, her fur moving as she breathes
They stick up in little ruffles, sharp points
Her head hides behind her tail
As if that would prevent another’s touch
At any sound her ears twitch
Moving like two satellites
Light from a lamp glints off her fuzzy strands
A dark line running down her back
Her secret belly a beautiful butter-cup
When she stretches her whole body moves
Claws widening, whiskers straightening
Then she stands up her body turning into an upside down ‘U’
She flops back down into a curl
Paw covering her wet nose
She breaks her stillness to lick herself
Then asleep again she flips her head
When she begins to wake
Her head lifts, her eyes scrunched closed
Lying back down, nose in fur
Relaxed body, steadily breathing
When she wakes fully she jumps off the bed
In search of food
Sleep time over
She sleeps, her fur moving as she breathes
They stick up in little ruffles, sharp points
Her head hides behind her tail
As if that would prevent another’s touch
At any sound her ears twitch
Moving like two satellites
Light from a lamp glints off her fuzzy strands
A dark line running down her back
Her secret belly a beautiful butter-cup
When she stretches her whole body moves
Claws widening, whiskers straightening
Then she stands up her body turning into an upside down ‘U’
She flops back down into a curl
Paw covering her wet nose
She breaks her stillness to lick herself
Then asleep again she flips her head
When she begins to wake
Her head lifts, her eyes scrunched closed
Lying back down, nose in fur
Relaxed body, steadily breathing
When she wakes fully she jumps off the bed
In search of food
Sleep time over
