Music Video Screenplay
Dec. 10th, 2007 02:31 pmI wrote a screenplay of a music video for the song "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" by The Moody Blues. If you have access to the song, play it while you read this. By the way, the actual music video they made is on YouTube.
EDIT: Here's the link to the video. I know you're out there somewhere
Out There Somewhere
INT. Restaurant
Pierce (late thirties) sits at a table sipping a wine glass.
A woman walks over to him and he smiles briefly.
INT. Different Restaurant
Pierce sits eating with a different woman.
INT. Another Restaurant
Pierce eating with another woman.
INT. Pierce’s Flat
Sitting on his bed, Pierce looks through a small black book.
In disgust he throws it in the trash.
He kneels on the floor reaching under the bed and pulling out an old shoebox.
Back on the bed he opens it and pulls out a set of photos. One is of a young girl, Angie, and his younger self holding hands by a tree house.
EXT. By Angie’s House (flashback)
Both eight years old, Pierce holds Angie’s hand in front of the tree house as her father takes a picture.
Angie pulls Pierce to the ladder, giggling, and starts climbing up.
INT. Tree House
Pierce is eating marshmallows while Angie is coloring.
Pierce pulls on her hair and she swats him. He grabs her hand and squeezes it, then looks through the window at the sky.
INT. Pierce’s Flat (present)
Pierce packs a bag with clothes.
He grabs his wallet and keys and heads for the door.
INT. Pierce’s Truck
Pierce shakily turns the key in the ignition.
He checks to make sure he has an old map of Ohio.
EXT. Highway
Pierce’s truck passes a sign saying, “Leaving Virginia, come back soon.”
INT. Pierce’s Family House (flashback)
Angie and Pierce, at fourteen, sit on the floor in front of the TV playing a video game.
She wins and lifts her arms in victory. He takes hold of her arms and gently moves them down, then kisses her on the lips.
She blushes.
They go back to playing.
EXT. Angie’s Old House (present)
Pierce shuts his car door and walks up to the house.
He rings the door and a young woman answers.
She mouths sorry and shuts the door.
Pierce walks back to the car.
INT. Pierce’s Truck
Pierce gets an old address book out of the glove compartment.
He hunts through it until he finds a name and address, Barry.
INT. Barry’s House
Pierce and Barry (late thirties) embrace.
Sitting down on the couch, Pierce hands Barry a picture of 17 year old Angie. Barry shakes his head.
INT. Sandra’s House
Sitting down, Pierce gives Sandra the same picture he gave Barry. She shakes her head, and pats him on the arm.
INT. Paul’s House
Paul shakes his head but gets out a college yearbook. Pierce opens it and finds a picture of Angie at 22. Paul writes a note, signs it and hands it to Pierce.
EXT. College Campus
Pierce walks up steps to the Registrar’s Building
INT. Office
Pierce hands the note Paul gave him to Rachel. Rachel and Pierce shake hands.
She walks to the back and looks up a folder with 1991 written on it.
Back at the computer she types in some numbers.
She writes an address and phone number and hands it to Pierce.
INT. Pierce’s Truck
Driving on the highway he picks up his cell phone and dials a number.
EXT. Outside Pierce’s House (flashback)
His father and mother are packing the car. Angie (seventeen) with her arms folded looks at Pierce.
Pierce tries to smile and then walks to his backpack by the car, and pulls out a camera.
He moves besides her, putting his arm around her, and taking a picture of the two of them.
INT. Inside Family Car
As his father drives them away, Pierce gazes back at Angie.
EXT. Outside Angie’s House (present)
Pierce pulls up. Angie is standing in front of the door, arms folded.
Pierce steps out of the car and looks at her.
They walk towards each other, and then run, grabbing hold of each other.
