On fanfic writing
Feb. 7th, 2011 07:39 pmSo, I may have only been sporadically writing fanfic for the past three years. Sporadically writing period actually. Oops? See I got it into my head that since I really want to write original fiction for later publication that I should focus all of my energy on that. Of course it ended up being a split focus between job hunting and writing, so it didn't turn out so well. I'm not saying I didn't write anything I'm just saying the joy of writing sort of disappeared and it became more of a case of telling myself well you suck (not at the writing but at the motivation to continue, a consistency of effort). So I would write something for a couple weeks and then not try again for a handful of months.
When I went to bed at night though I'd keep dreaming up these fanfic ideas to help me fall asleep. And I even wrote a handful of the shorter ideas I had come up with. But I stopped committing myself to actually writing the more and more elaborate ideas I'd come up with because of telling myself I should be focusing that same energy on something original.
So after three years of fighting myself over my *stupid* commitment to only writing original fiction, I have given in to my desires and now have two fairly involved (though not epic) fanfic stories to write. One is in the Merlin fandom the other in Supernatural. I'm a Merlin/Arthur and Dean/Castiel sort of gal.
So you all can look forward in the future to these stories if you're still interested in my writing. I still will continue to write original and maybe I'll even post those sometime in the future. I realize now that by telling myself to only write a certain type of story I was smothering my muse. So muse, I'm sorry, will you forgive me?
That's all for now.
