Title: Therapeutic Coupling
Authors: MurdocsAngel and libra_traveller
Pairing: John/Rodney, Carson/Kate
Rating: PG
Summary: Kate gives couple sessions in therapy.

The office was rather spacious compared to the regular quarters on Atlantis, however, it left enough room to make it as comfortable for those who came for a session as possible. Kate Heightmeyer sat at her laptop, surveying her entries and frowning at the patterns she was starting to notice. It was only natural that people pair off, seeing as this was almost like a separate colony, and it was a good thing. However, along with the normal problems a relationship could go through, was the added stress of being in a war-like situation. Something was bound to give. She was typing up speculative sessions for the new couples, sure to take into account how horrendous everyone's schedules are, when a hesitative knock interrupted her.

Carson Beckett stepped in. "Are you busy lass?"

"Not for you, baby." Kate gestured him in and kissed her new lover passionately. Carson responded to the kiss hesitantly at first, mostly from surprise, then with more passion as it went on.

"Excuse me I was just, dear god I didn't know you two were together." Rodney McKay walked in on the gruesome sight of the two doctors going at it.

Carson and Kate quickly broke apart, both equally aghast at the thought of being caught acting so unprofessionally. Of course, Kate mused, she probably should have waited until they were in his quarters later, but she hadn't had a kiss since this morning....

"Dr. McKay, you're five minutes early," she paused, "For a change."

"Yes well, I would have been late if I had known what sight I'd be greeted by. How long have you two been together anyways?"

"Actually, Rodney boy, we've been a couple since before the mission." Carson hunched away from Kate.

"Since before the mission," Rodney repeated, "And no one's noticed that yet? Oh come on...I can't believe you didn't tell me Carson!"

"You mean like when you told me about you and Sheppard?" Carson asked, raising his eyebrows significantly.

Rodney sputtered in indignation. "I don't...we’re not...we...uh...we're just friends," he finished lamely.

"I'm sorry Dr. McKay, but that's not how Major Sheppard tells it. He actually talks about you a lot. He actually came to me first saying he was too scared to tell you how he felt. I sort of gave him the push to admit his feelings. I'm glad that's gone well." Kate smugly finished.

"What about doctor/patient confidentiality?" he muttered in response, "I suppose you've gone and told everyone all about my problems, haven't you?" He raised a shaking finger and pointed it at her accusingly, "You probably told them all about my teddy bear fetish!"

"Rodney," Carson said soothingly, "You told everyone about your teddy bear fetish when you got drunk on Athosian moonshine."

Kate smiled slightly; this was Rodney's usual way of processing new information that changed his outlook on things.

"Fine I bet you've told everybody how I still have problems wetting the bed." Carson raised an eyebrow. "Oops."

Carson looked sternly at him, "Perhaps you should have come to me about that."

"I would have if I thought it would do any good, but nothing anyone does is ever any good," Rodney said petulantly, "And you would have laughed at me. At least Heightmeyer doesn't laugh at me to my face."

"Carson," Kate said with a smile, "why don't we meet for lunch in my quarters, so Rodney can have his session?" She gave the medical doctor a seductive smile.

Carson gave Kate a quick kiss on the cheek then turned to Rodney. "Come to the infirmary I can get you some bedding that'll absorb it for you."

Later after he left, Rodney asked Kate, "Did John really come to you about me? What does he say?"

Though she was not supposed to break confidentiality, she had to tell Rodney. "He says how much he loves you. It takes time to get him to stop talking about you, and talk about himself."

A slow, silly grin spread across Rodney's face as he took in her words, eyes gazing off into the distance. "He really does that, does he? Well of course all he can talk about is me, I mean...it is me after all."

Knock. Knock. "Am I interrupting anything?"

"John, what are you doing here?" Rodney yelped as he jumped up and gave an embarrassed John a huge hug.

"I was just, you know..." John gave a little shrug, "in the area and thought I'd see if um, anyone was here."

Kate looked up. "Actually this is great timing. I think you two could use a couple session to make sure that the stress of missions doesn't negatively affect your personal relationship with each other."

John looked frightened as he spoke to Kate. "Is that really necessary?"

"Yes it is. Please take a seat."

Kate looked from John to Rodney. "Okay, now how often do you two have sex? It's important to determine that both of your sexual needs are being met."

It was not often that Rodney McKay was rendered speechless, but the directness of that question undoubtedly did the job. He stared at the blond psychologist, mouth hanging open as though he wanted to say something, but no words were forming.

"Do you really need to know this?" John asked. Kate nodded her head with determination. "Fine. We haven't yet found the time to have sex. We're always too busy with missions and stuff."

She nodded, keeping her hands folded in her lap, her posture relaxed. "And does this bother either of you? Rodney?"

"Of course it bothers me. I personally think he's just scared of gay sex." Rodney huffed in frustration.

John gave Rodney an irritated look. "I'm not afraid of gay sex, I'm afraid I won't be any good at it."

"So you're having performance anxiety, is that it?" Rodney actually looked concerned. "There's no way you can be bad at it. Just give it a chance."

Kate happily continued writing notes. "Perhaps you two should schedule a night alone. Maybe have dinner together in one of your quarters and go from there."

"Schedule sex time?" John asked incredulously, "Does that seriously work? Because I've seen lots of people break up because of that."

"Well at this point you two might break up because of a high level of stress due to sexual frustration. Don't schedule time for sex, just schedule 'alone' time. If you're both lucky, it'll just lead to sex." Kate looked earnest as she gave her advice.

John glanced at Rodney. It had taken him a while to admit that the feelings he felt for the man were more than just friendship, and that he really wouldn't mind if they took their relationship further. "I guess we could manage that."

Thrilled, Kate continued. "That's wonderful. Now a problem you might have is if you hold your expectations too high." She grabbed two separate sheets of paper. "An interesting activity we can try is for you both to write down what you'd like to do with each other. Why don't both of you write things down and then switch them. This way you'll both have an idea what to expect."

John tentatively took the paper, glancing sidelong at Rodney as he did the same. John knew what he would like to do, but...could he actually write it down? Rodney swiftly began writing, giving John anxiety all over again. No way was Rodney going to come up with great ideas and he was not. What John did not know was Rodney was actually writing all the reasons that Kate was nuts in an effort to make John laugh. Galvanized by the thought of a challenge, John began jotting down everything that came to mind regarding the subject of what he would like to do to Rodney. When they exchanged papers, John broke into a huge smile as he read. Then when he heard Rodney choking next to him, his whole face flushed red from his forehead and down his neck.

After catching his breath, Rodney stood up none too subtly holding the paper in front of himself. "I think I should go now, I have...stuff to check," he finished lamely.

John, noticing Rodney's trouble, could not help but smirk. "Perhaps I'll help you with... that stuff." They both hastily left the room.

Kate watched them leave and thought to herself, 'those sex therapy courses have finally paid off'. Then she sat back against her chair, tapping the pen against her lips. She did not have any other scheduled appointments, and it was a bit too early for lunch. So she decided to leave and head to the infirmary for 'Carson Watching'. Left was a lone piece of paper that said, 'Perhaps Carson and Kate are having sex-time issues.'

Well, we wrote this months ago, so if it's continued I'll probably have to finish it on my own, but I'll think about it. Glad it made you giggle.

Thanks. Fixed it. Also went and fixed at least most of the tense changes. If you see anything else, you can tell me.
